One More Post About the Wedding Weekend (Alternate Title: Men Are Crazy)

I leaned over during the rehearsal dinner and whispered in Re-Boyfriend’s ear, “Do you think she’s going to have kids soon? That’s so weird because she’s so young. But I guess if you get married, you want kids. Why else do you get married? The whole thing is so weird.”

Re-Boyfriend looked slightly upset, turned to me and whispered back “That’s not why people get married, CB. They get married because they get their first place together, or just whatever...I don’t know, it doesn’t mean they want to have kids in the next five seconds. And it’s not weird at all.”

I couldn’t believe my boyfriend was defending the institution of marriage at a young age. When I looked at him, he actually appeared to be pouting.

"Um...no, you’re right," I said quickly, trying to make amends. "I mean living together is a big step. I guess it’s not weird to get married soon after that—"

“ARE YOU TRYING TO PRESSURE ME?”

I just stared at Re-Boyfriend. He looked like he was hyperventilating.

“Clearly, you’ve gone insane,” I told him. A person that could come up with a non-sequiter like that could not be reasoned with. “I’m not talking to you.”

Then I went to the bar and drank until I wasn’t pissed off.

CB, you could very well be the next female Seinfeld! Your stories are very entertaining as we all can relate to your experiences. Maybe you should do stand-up...drunk of course!

Living together is easy. Not killing each other is the challenge.

Men turn into freaks at weddings. I'd be more worried about the guy that doesn't because he is most certainly an alien impersonating a human male.

This is a little random... but I actually imagined Re-Boyfriend... can I just call him "Re"?.. I imagined Re addressing you as CB and that made the dialogue that much funnier.

It's a fad. Like having babies.

How young are we talking here? If you say 25, my newly engaged 33yr old self is going to have to smack somebody.

Gotta love that pressuring me stuff when you had absolutely nothing to do with it....men....

Marriage is highly overrated.

Next time I want to get married, I am just going to find a woman I don't like and buy her a house.

Everyone freaks out at weddings, especially the father of the bride who is paying for all of the nonsense. Marriage is a great institution, it's the weddings that suck!

I love that you call him Re-Boyfriend.

I guess conversations at a wedding are certainly a minefield.

Weddings are such a rip-off--unless performed by an Elvis impersonator in Vegas, I am against them.

Not too long ago, I came home after attending a wedding with the BF. I've never had such a nice day end with such a completely irrational fight. Next time, I think I'll just go alone.

I love that you call him Re-Boyfriend STILL.

I went to my cousins wedding and when we were doing our goodbye she said "I suppose you two will be next" which is fair comment since we'd been going out about 9 years by that stage. My BF does the upward-nod-closed-eye "Hh-Hhhhmmmmm" And if to say "I wish I had a witty, non-commital retort for that".
And she, if her newfound wifey-wisdom says "Yeah, my boy used to do the closed-eye thing too."
eep.

"non sequitur", with a 'u'. I suffered through all those Latin classes, I put it to use when I can. Sorry!
